Downtown Beaverton is the first Main Street Program in the City of Beaverton. Since 2011 the Economic Development Division has provided technical assistance, training, and funding to the Beaverton Downtown Association (BDA). The mission of the BDA is to promote the preservation, history, culture, architecture, and public use of Beaverton’s traditional downtown area.

Programs

  • Façade Improvement Program - The City of Beaverton offers up to $20,000 in matching grants to undertake façade improvements in specific areas of Beaverton’s downtown core. A financing program offered in partnership with Banner Bank is available for the remaining areas of downtown.

Accomplishments


2013-14

  • Funded more than $12,000 to the BDA in 2013-14 for downtown revitalization efforts including:
    • First Friday
    • A Taste of Vintage Holidays
  • Developed marketing materials for available retail properties
  • Completed Wayfinding System Plan which provides design guidelines, sign placement, and implementation direction pertaining to wayfinding signage in the downtown core.

2012-13

  • Funded more than $12,000 to the BDA in 2011-12 for downtown revitalization efforts including:
  • Business development outreach and training
  • Placed holiday lights, decorations, and banners throughout Downtown Beaverton
  • Provided Committee and volunteer trainings.
  • Developed a Downtown Beaverton Walking Map which showcases public art, historic buildings, sustainable features, destination businesses, and walking routes. It was made possible through a $5,000 grant from the Washington County Visitors Association (WCVA).
  • Expanded the Façade Improvement Program to include a new Financing Program.
  • The City of Beaverton hired a consultant; Sea Reach, to begin working a Wayfinding System Plan for the downtown core.

2011-12

  • Funded more than $10,000 to the BDA in 2011-12 for downtown revitalization efforts including
    • First Friday
    • Historic Downtown Plaques
    • A Taste of Vintage Holidays
  • Wrote the BDA annual newsletter
  • Placed holiday lights, decorations, and banners throughout Downtown Beaverton.
  • Helped the BDA submit an application for 501(c)3 non-profit status
  • Provided board member volunteer trainings
  • Maintained the BDA web pages
  • Conducted a Downtown Retail Market Analysis
  • Received a grant from the Washington County Visitors Association (WCVA) to develop a downtown walking tour brochure and website
  • Establish a process to consider wayfinding and other key signage for increased branding and identify within and leading to Downtown Beaverton
