Seeking Affordable Housing?

The demand for affordable rent in the Portland Metro Area exceeds the supply of affordable units. Some waitlists are even closed. In addition rent that is affordable to some households is not affordable to other households. The income limits table will help you determine which income bracket you may fall under. This information is important as it will help you align your affordable housing eligibility with the housing you are seeking. Once you have determined whether you fall under these income limits 80% and below, 60% and below, 50% and below or 30% and below the housing links provided below will help you to begin your search for the housing. The sooner you are able to get on a waitlist the sooner you are likely to find affordable housing.

If you have been served an eviction notice, through no cause of your own, and you have 14 or fewer days before eviction, contact COMMUNITY CONNECT IMMEDIATELY 503-640-3263.

Anticipate housing application fees.

Application fees up to $75 often apply, charged by for-profit properties and fees up to $25 charged by non-profit owned properties. If you have any reason to believe that you may not qualify due to your income, a past eviction, poor credit, or criminal background be sure and ask for the APPLICANT SCREENING CRITERIA. Oregon landlords are required to provide this information to help you understand the applicant criteria required by the landlord. With this information you should generally be able to self-determine whether paying an application fee is a good idea or not.

If you feel you have been denied housing based on race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, familial status, disability, source of income, gender identity, and marital status contact the Fair Housing Council of Oregon’s discrimination hotline.
